After receiving a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from Roosevelt University in 1975 the journey began.

In 1992 Mrs. Mercherson founded the West Woodlawn Council of Block Club’s Women Auxiliary, which was a spring board to organizing Woodlawn Community Service Corporation in 2000.   The priority of this community organization was youth and family empowerment.

To their credit, WCSC has adopted two elementary schools, Emmett Till Math and Science Academy (formerly known as James McCosh School) and Woodlawn Community School.  Students and their families receive assistance with school supplies, uniforms, mentoring, Holiday toys and Holiday food baskets.

In addition to supporting youth and school activities, Mrs Mercherson saw the need to be promote Family Value Awareness through organizing an annual workshop series on   Knowing the Law, Financial Education, Domestic Violence and Health.

Mrs. Mercherson has strong family and community values, which is demonstrated in her over 25 years of community service through activism and volunteerism.

Mrs. Mercherson’s recipe for happiness is:

1. You can be whatever you want to be.

2. Decide on what you want.
